Water Quality Changes

Changes in water color, clarity, odor, or taste may be a sign that your cistern needs attention. A visual inspection can help determine whether sediment or buildup is present.

Sediment Buildup

Sediment, dirt, and debris can gradually collect on the bottom and interior surfaces of your cistern. Visible buildup suggests it may be time for a thorough cleaning. Regular cleaning helps keep that buildup from becoming excessive.

It's Been A While

If you're not sure when your cistern was last cleaned, it may be time to take a look. Sediment and debris can build up gradually, even when you don't notice any obvious changes in your water.

Our Cleaning Process

01

Water Removal

We remove remaining water from the cistern so the interior can be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. There’s no need to drain your cistern before we arrive.

02

Sediment & Debris Removal

We remove accumulated sediment, dirt and debris from the bottom of the cistern using pumps, wet-vac equipment and other tools as needed, preparing the interior surfaces for thorough cleaning.

03

Interior Cleaning

We thoroughly clean the interior surfaces using pressure washing and scrubbing as needed to loosen and remove dirt, residue and buildup from the cistern walls and floor.

04

Chlorine Disinfection

After cleaning, we apply a chlorine solution to the interior surfaces and allow the proper contact time for disinfection. The cistern is then rinsed and prepared to be returned to service.

How Often Should a Cistern Be Cleaned?

Cistern cleaning is generally recommended every 3–5 years, depending on the individual cistern, water source, sediment accumulation, condition and use. Some cisterns may need attention sooner, so we recommend cleaning based on the actual condition of your cistern rather than a fixed schedule.
